Hero I-League: Pritam Singh's stunning goal helps RoundGlass Punjab secure their first victory

RoundGlass Punjab FC announced their arrival to Indian football in an emphatic fashion as they began their journey in Hero I-League with a 1-0 win over former champions Aizawl FC at the Kalyani Stadium on Saturday. Pritam Singh scored a stunning goal in the 18th minute to make it the deciding factor of the game.

It was a confident start by RGPFC with two young center-backs Ashray Bhardwaj and Saurabh Bhanwala making their debut in Hero I-League. RGPFC had their first positive move in the 16th minute, but Joseba Beitia couldn't keep his shot on target.

The captivating moment of the game appeared in the 18th minute when Pritam Singh got a layoff from Joseba Beitia on the top of the box and triggered a sensational shot to give a 1-0 lead to RGPFC.

RGPFC could have doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Souvik Das curled a terrific cross in from the right flank but Chencho's first touch let him down from scoring. Just before the half-time break, Chencho took an excellent free-kick but it missed the target narrowly.
Curtis Fleming's boys started the second half positively and in the 54th minute they brought in another fine counter-attacking move when Beitia failed to convert the chance despite making a very good run.
Aizawl FC got a fine opportunity in the 62nd minute of the game, but Alfred's powerful shot was superbly blocked by young Saurabh Bhanwala to negate the danger.

The best chance for Aizawl FC came in the 74th minute when Fanai was clear through to score the goal but RGPFC goalkeeper Kiran Limbu made a magnificent save to help RoundGlass Punjab maintain their lead in the game.

Aizawl started to put more pressure in the last fifteen minutes but the tactical changes from Curtis Fleming with his impact substitutions helped RoundGlass Punjab FC to leave the ground with full three points.

RoundGlass Punjab will play their next game on Thursday at 2 pm at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata against Gokulam Kerala.
