As the competition intensifies with every week, the pressure on the teams and fans is piling up. While East Bengal faced three consecutive losses in their first ISL campaign, Goa gave their fans a reason to party after clinching their first win of the season. Let us take a quick look on this week’s highlights:
1. Woes continue for East Bengal
East Bengal started their ISL campaign under huge pressure with the Kolkata derby and followed up with matches against Mumbai City Fc and NorthEast United FC. Robbie Fowler’s side has been thrashed in all their clashes and even failed to net a single goal while conceding seven. The fans have taken over the internet to show their anger, as they are being ridiculed by all the other teams as they are the new entrants. Fowler had also given some statements which gave rise to a controversial air around the coach. East Bengal currently sits at the bottom of the table with 0 points and will try to get some start from their next match.
2. The Return of the Gaurs
Gaurs registered their first win of ISL 7 on Sunday and became the reason for tears amongst the Kerala fans. Angulo’s Flick, Brandon’s pass, and Ortiz’s speed were some of the key moments of the match. Though, Gomez’s goal in the final minutes of the game did try to act as some relief for the side in yellow. But the Red Card to Costa and Albino’s little mistake hammered the final nail in the coffin and Kerala had to return to their home with a loss. This was the much required push to the confidence needed by Fernando’s side, who will be facing Odisha Fc up next on 12th Dec 2020.
3. Kerala still winless
The two-time finalists are still to make a win in this season with 6 matches remaining before the start of the second phase of ISL. Kibu’s side had to face a lot of backlash from the internet, but the fans still believe that their team can make a comeback. Cido’s ligament tear has worsened the situation for them, and they will be trying to sign a replacement during the January transfer window. Sahal’s niggle and mistimed touches, Facundo's and Hooper’s failure to make an impact, wingers not able to deliver are just some of the concerns that are troubling Kibu. Will the men in yellow be able to make a comeback, or more troubles are on their way for Kerala ?
4. Jamshedpur Strikes
ATK Mohun Bagan got slaughtered and were gifted their first loss of the season by Jamshedpur FC. Even after relentless efforts, a lethal striker, and an experienced backline, JFC drew with Hyderabad and Odisha after a 2-1 loss against Owen Coyle’s ex-team. The boys in red gave the worst nightmare to the Jhingan-Tiri duo of ATKMohun Bagan and sent the defending champions back into halftime with a score of 1-0. Valskis and Monroy again spoiled the chances of Mohun bagan by scoring another goal in the third quarter of the game. Every attempt of the mariners got shattered into bits with Hartley and Eze patrolling in the back for JFC. The match finished with a score of 2-1, as the referee decided to reduce the brunt on Kolkata’s side by allowing them an offside goal. Jamshedpur is not the one to be taken lightly, and this match was proof of that.
