ISL Hero Of The Week : Week 2

The 2nd week of Hero Indian Super League have finished and now its time to find the Hero Of The Week-2. The fans will be selecting the Hero by voting. The players who became the "Hero Of The Match" of every game in past week are the nominees for The Hero Of The Week.

The voting structure is just like the 1st week When Anirudh Thapa was chosen as the "Hero Of The Week-1".

1. Diego Maurício

Diego Mauricio made his senior club debut for Brazil's Flamengo in 2010 where he linked up with football legend, Ronaldinho. He has played for other Brazilian teams like Sport Club do Recife, Bragantino and Centro Sportivo Alagoano. The Rio de Janeiro-born forward was part of Brazil's talented U-20 squad and played in a team with stars like Phillipe Coutinho, Casemiro, Oscar, Felipe Anderson, Roberto Firmino and Neymar. Outside South America, Mauricio has played in South Korea for Busan IPark and Gangwon FC, Saudi Arabia for Al Qadisiyah, Portugal for Vitoria FC, Russia for FC Spartak Vladikavkaz and China for Shijiazhuang Ever Bright FC. He signed for Odisha FC ahead of Hero ISL 2020-21.

2. Albino Gomes

The Goa-born goalkeeper started his football career with Sporting Clube de Goa, before being snapped up by Salgaocar FC. Albino Gomes managed to win the Hero I-League title under Khalid Jamil in 2017, playing every minute in Aizawl FC’s title-winning campaign. In the Hero ISL Albino played his first two seasons with Mumbai City FC before making a switch to Delhi Dynamos FC in 2017. He was the second-choice goalkeeper for Delhi Dynamos FC for two campaigns and will be hoping to cement a starting berth with Kerala Blasters FC in the 2020-21 season of the Hero ISL.

3. Lalengmawia

Born in Mizoram, Lalengmawia started playing football from the age of six and rose through the ranks rapidly. In 2017, he became the only player from his state to make it into India's historic squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Lalengmawia is a natural central midfielder, who is also capable of playing a more attacking role and as a left winger. He made 11 appearances for Indian Arrows in Hero I-League 2018-19 and also scored a goal. The Hero ISL 2019-20 season saw him turn up in the NorthEast United FC jersey, and he established himself as a starter instantly, commanding a strong passing accuracy of 80.45% in 10 matches. Retained ahead of the 2020-21 season, Lalengmawia will look to continue his run in the first team for the Highlanders.

4. Hugo Boumous

Born in Rennes, France, Hugo Boumous graduated from the youth academy of Laval and made his debut with the reserves in 2013. He moved to FC Goa during the 2017-18 season’s January transfer window and made an instant impact, scoring two goals and providing two assists in just eight matches. After a strong run in the 2018-19 campaign, Boumous had his best Hero ISL season in the 2019-20 edition, scoring 11 goals and assisting 10 others in their run to the Inaugural Hero ISL shield. He was awarded with the Hero of the League as well as the Hero ISL Winning Pass of the League award for his fine form. After a formidable season with FC Goa, he was roped in by Mumbai City FC ahead of Hero ISL 2020-21.

5. Mohammed Yasir

Born in Manipur, Mohammed Yasir showed his passion for football from a very young age as he helped Manipur clinch the National School Games in 2014. The youngster joined the FC Pune City academy in 2016 and went on to captain the Colts to a U-19 IFA Shield win. Yasir joined FC Goa in Hero ISL 2017-18, but couldn’t get any game time for the Gaurs in the Hero ISL. He, however, made his professional debut for the club, coming on as a substitute in the Hero Super Cup 2018 final against East Bengal FC. He returned to FC Pune City for the 2018-19 season and made his Hero ISL debut in a match against Mumbai City FC. He was impressive in the middle of the park for the Stallions and won the Emerging Player of the Match award. During the 2019-20 season, Yasir established himself as a regular in the Hyderabad FC setup, making 15 appearances and scoring one goal as well. After signing a three-year contract extension, he will look to continue his long-term development at the club.

6. Roy Krishna

Roy Krishna began his professional career in his native Fiji, before making the switch to New Zealand. He spent six glorious years there, turning out for Waitakere United and Auckland City. Krishna then moved to the A-League and continued his scoring streak, notching up more than 50 goals for the Wellington Phoenix. He also won the Golden Boot and the prestigious Johnny Warren Medal after a stellar 2018-19 season. At the international level, the striker has 23 goals for Fiji. After a dream debut season with ATK FC, where the striker scored 15 goals as his team lifted the trophy, he signed a one-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan FC.

7. Suresh Wangjam

The midfielder began his career with the Bir Chandra Memorial Sports Club in Manipur and became a part of the Indian Arrows outfit in 2017. He played 29 matches for his team over two seasons in the Hero I-League. Suresh Singh Wangjam also represented the India U-17 team in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017. He was called up to the national team camp after his strong performances for Bengaluru FC and will look to add to those appearances in the 2020-21 edition of the league.

8. Benjamin Lambot

Benjamin Lambot began his youth career with AFC Tubize in his home county of Belgium, before turning out for other Belgian clubs like Royal Excelsior Virton, Royal Antwerp FC, and Lierse SK. He returned to Leirse after half a season with Azerbaijani club PFC Simurq. The defender last played for Nea Salamis Famagusta FC in Cyprus during the 2019-20 season. He will look to solidify NorthEast United FC’s defence in Hero ISL 2020-21.
