Mumbai City FC Squad Analysis

Following the investment from City Football Group, Mumbai City FC has undergone a complete revamp. They have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market this time around. Starting with the appointment of Sergio Lobera as head coach Mumbai will be entering this season of the ISL with a fresh new outlook. The purpose of this article is to analyze MFC's squad for this season:

1. FOREIGN SQUAD-

First of all, let's have a look at the foreign players that Mumbai has at their disposal this season :

Mumbai's main focus this transfer window was to secure players best fitted for Lobera's style of play and roped in 3 of his most trusted players during his stint in Goa for that very purpose. Mourtada Fall is a goal-scoring defender and has a strong aerial presence. Coming to the midfield department Jahouh and Boumous will be key to Mumbai's performance this season. Jahouh will be controlling the midfield and has got tremendous passing accuracy especially in providing long balls. Houmous who was the player of the tournament last season is a creative CAM who can create chances out of nowhere. His chemistry with Coro last season at Goa was key to their success last season.

The forward department consists of last season's joint top scorer Ogbache and the new recruit from the A-League Adam Le Fondre. It will be interesting to see how these two will combine up top for MFC.

Other recruits include Hernan Sanatana who played under Sergio during his time at Las Palmas, he has joined the team on loan from Sporting Gijon.  Japanese player Cy Goddard has been roped in by Mumbai city on loan from Benevento Calcio. Goddard can play as a CAM as well as in the right win, he will be instrumental in creating chances with his pace and dribbling abilities whenever on the field.

2. INDIAN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR:

Now let's have a look at the Indian Players to watch out for from Mumbai this season, Vikram Pratap Singh is the first on the list. The young Indian striker who moved in from Indian Arrows will be an interesting player to look forward to this season. He is an amazing striker with a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see how Lobera will use him this season.

Another player to watch out for this season is Mohammed Rakip he has moved from Kerala Blasters. He is expected to start most of the games, Rakip was excellent for KBFC last season with his defensive commitment and his excellent decision-making skills, Rakip will be looking to continue showcasing his traits in a different color this season. Mehtab Singh who has been signed from East Bengal is also an interesting young prospect in the defensive department to look out for.

3.STRENGHTS:

Mumbai with their new outlook inarguably is a strong squad and will be a contender for the title this season.

  • They have a very strong midfield with the presence of Boumous, Jahouh, Rowlin Borges, Santana, Raynier Fernandes, and many more. Mumbai's mid-field department is without a doubt is the best in the league.
  • Their striking department is no less with two lethal finishers Bart Ogbache and Le fondre along with young Vikram as a backup striker in the squad. This deadly attack is sure to bring in goals galore to the club.
  • Another strength is that the players are best fit for Lobera's style of play and will easily get attached to the tactics.
4.WEAKNESSES:

There aren't a lot of weaknesses to this squad as it has got back up's for almost all positions in the team.

  • One of their main weakness lies in the defensive department with no proper experienced back up for Senegalese defender Mourtada Fall. If any of the first-team defenders pick up an injury Mumbai will face a hard time coping with it.

5. PROBABLE 11:

Lobera is expected to play with the 4-2-3-1 formation, a formation which he loves to use usually.
The strongest lineup will be

  • Amrinder(Gk)
  • Rakip(RB)
  • Golui(CB)
  • Fall(CB)
  • Mandar(LB)
  • Jahouh(DM)
  • Borges(DM)
  • Goddard(RW)
  • Boumous(CAM)
  • Farukh(LW)
  • Le Fondre(ST)
