Exclusive Interview With Benjamin Lambot

ISL is on the way and all the teams are getting ready. All the players have arrived at Goa and most of them are on the training ground. We had a chance to interview the Belgian Centre-Back of NorthEast United FC while he was under quarantine at Goa. The 33-year-old is signed by the club on a one-year deal. 

Starting off his youth career at Belgian club White Star Bruxelles, the player went on to feature for Tubize’s senior team in 2001.He spent a major part of his career at the Belgian 2nd Division club and he also helped them secure promotion to the top Division in 2008.Thereafter, Benjamin Lambot represented several Belgian clubs and then he moved to Azerbaijan club Simurq in 2014. Then he came back to Belgium club Cercle Brugge and was the captain of the club when they were crowned as the champion of division 1 Belgium in 2017-2018 season. In the 2019-20 season, the defender featured for Cypriot club Nea Salamina.

Now let's see what the Belgian Centre-Back had to say in our Interview. 

Lambot played for the Cyprus club Nea Salamina last season. This is what he had to say about it.

“In Cyprus we had many quality players. Most of them where from Spain. They were very technical. The climate was similar to Goa. The football level was very good. I enjoyed my time there.” 

Everyone has an ideal football player. Who’s Lambot’s?

“Andres Iniesta. He was fantastic at Barca. High level player. He understands the game. Very technical player”  

Which is the breakthrough moment in your life? 

“When I became the champion of Belgium First Division with Cercle Brugge in 2017-2018 season. It was an unforgettable moment.”

His comments on ISL and Indian football.

“ISL is a short league, but very intensive. All the people look about the league. There is good publicity and it is good for Indian football. Cricket is the main sport in India. Football is growing here. There is good fan base for football here.”

Lambot’s say about the publicity of ISL in foreign countries.

“ISL is getting more popular around the world. Big players have played in the league. I have played against some players who played here at Belgium.” 

What made Lambot sign for the Highlanders.

“India is a big country and I have heard about the league. The club was interested in me. The club trusts me and It’s a good thing.” 

What are his expectations this season?

“I like to win and be among the top clubs. I want to play very well. Hope that the whole team will perform well. We will try to reach the top four. I am looking forward to have a good season.” 

About his partnership with Dylan fox.

“We have talked already. We will try to understand each other and will learn to play with good coordination between us. He is a good player. Young and talented. I think we will make a good team.”

Did he know any of his teammates before.

“I knew Khassa Camara before coming to ISL. We have some mutual friends. He is a beast in the field. I also know Idrissa Sylla. I have played against him at Belgium. Good player. Speedy player. He can score very well.”

“I think we have good players. I think we will play very well this season.” 

Coming to India.

“I was interested in the country, in the team, in the league. It will be a good experience for me. I was only thinking about what I can do and to come here as soon as possible to play.”

About the coach. 

“He has a good mentality. Good experience. He has been to lot of countries, lot of leagues. He will be a good chief for the team.”  

Message to the fans.

“I am very excited and very impatient to go to play in the stadium. We will give our 100% effort and we will work hard. I hope we can give something special to the fans this year.”
